of square form, surmounted by a recumbent mythical beast with a dragon head and a turtle body, the scaly neck and mane of the dragon and the upper shell of the turtle detailed with fine incisions, its head tilted to one side with large bead eyes and flaring nostrils, the seal face reading Xiang Zijing Yin (Seal of Xiang Zijing), suffused with a network of crackles in concentric circles

Condition
The seal is in very good condition with the exception of age lines running vertically up the side of the base and a circa 2x1mm., hole/fissure to the top of the beast just beside the rear haunches.

此象牙方印雕工精湛，瑞獸栩栩如生，印名項元汴（1525-1590年），字子京，別號墨林居士。項元汴乃浙江嘉興人，明代收藏名家，擅書畫，精鑒賞，經營藝珍買賣，致富益甚。項氏收藏堂號名為「天籟閣」，囊括眾多重要珍品，後入清宮典藏，現存於北京故宮博物院及台北故宮博物院。項氏常於藏品鈐蓋鑑藏印章，亦偶見長文題識。
參考一象牙雕印例，獸首稍朝側望，造型相似，展於香港東方陶瓷學會展覽，《文玩萃珍》，香港大學馮平山博物館，1986年，編號221。另有一例，傳永樂年製，售於倫敦蘇富比，1984年6月19日，編號98。比較兩例，獸首前望，售於倫敦蘇富比。其一展於東方陶瓷學會展覽，《The Arts of the Ming Dynasty》，倫敦，1957年，編號363，售於1976年12月14日，編號206，其二出自 Herb༺ert 爵士及 Ingram夫人收藏，售於1993年6月8日，編號155。再比一對例，售於香港佳士得，2005年11月28日，編號1451。
