well potted with the cylindrical body rising to a short waisted neck and supported on a straight foot, superbly painted around the exterior with a lively writhing dragon and flying phoenix gazing at each other with claws and wings outstretched, their respective scales and feathers finely detailed, amidst an elaborate continuous meandering peony scroll, the foot skirted with a band of keyfrets and upright lappets, the neck and shoulder with a border of leaves and ruyi heads, the base with a seal mark in underglaze blue

Condition
The lantern is in good condition with the exception of an approx. 7cm., long vertical hairline body crack and minor glaze scratches.

本瓶施五爪龍鳳紋飾，乃帝后象徵，繪工精絕，栩栩如生。釉裏紅勾勒紋飾，細緻入微，展示清初至乾隆年間，景德鎮御窰工藝發展成就。釉裏紅瓷施釉及燒造均異常困難，須極度精準控制火候，甫得佳色。或因紅彩寓意吉祥，乾隆帝要求格外嚴格。乾隆三年（1738），檔案記載清高宗示意御作坊所製釉裏紅龍紋梅瓶欠佳，見馮先銘，《中國古陶瓷文獻集釋》，臺北，2000年，頁232。
本品器形紋飾，均取思自中國製瓷傳統精髓。龍鳳紋飾，乃中國最早期符號象徵紋飾之一，沿用至今，恆常不衰。龍鳳紋飾於元代成正統，三爪為貴胄所用，五爪為宮廷御品。明初，龍鳳合繪，意寓帝后婚慶。至清一朝，龍鳳紋飾𒁃仍流行於各式瓷器。圓筒式器形，取自早明青花幾何紋飾雛本，華盛頓哥倫比亞特區弗利爾美術館收藏一例，John Alexander Pope論述，此器形與十一世紀遠東陶藥罐相近，《Chinese porcelain from the Ardebil 🧔Shrine》，華盛頓，1956年，圖版138A。
乾隆年間，本瓶器形盛行，釉裏紅技術發展超卓，於此前所為有，從各式乾隆年作例可知。比較兩長頸瓶例，無款，分別售於倫敦蘇富比1989年12月12日，編號383及2015年11月11日，編號49，後者曾易手於香港蘇富比1993年4月27/28日，編號114；另比一梅瓶例，售於倫敦蘇富比2010年11月10日，編號84；再比一例，出自Cunliffe勛爵收藏， 售於倫敦邦瀚斯 2002年11月11日，編號83，後易手於香港佳士得2011年6月1日，編號3925。比較數多方壺例，乾ꩵ隆年器並款，釉裏紅牡丹鳳紋，其一清宮舊藏，現存於北京故宮博物院，圖載於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．青花釉裏紅（下）》，上海，2000年，圖版176，同書並載ꦡ一青花釉裏紅例，斷代雍正年，飾花卉祥鳳，圖版201；另一例售於香港蘇富比1978年11月29日，編號281，後易手於紐約蘇富比2006年9月21日，編號333。
