Condition
The lower mounts have been re-attached, with visible traces of the adhesive used. The mounts with casting flaws, small dents throughout. The rock crystal with many inclusions and natural fissures, one with a bruise and associated cracks.

The shape of these bowls is based on the Buddhist alms bowl called a patra. Shortly after his enlightenment the Guardian Kings of the Four Directions are said to have appeared to Buddha and presented him with an alms bowl of this shape. Bowls of this shape are also used to hold ritual offerings.
