Acquired from the above in the mid 1950's, thence by descent to the present owner

The canvas is not lined. There is a milky varnish preventing UV light from fully penetrating, particularly visible along the upper edge. Examination under UV light reveals areas of retouching above the buildings in the centre of the composition and additional spots of retouching in places predominately to the centre of the upper edge and towards the upper right corner. There is a small line of retouching (approx. 5 cm long) to the lower right corner. There are a few scattered dots of pigment losses, notably to the right part of the upper edge and to the lower left corner. There is a few specks of gold from a previous framing to the left part of he upper edge. This work is in overall good condition.
