Condition

Please see laitexier.com for an updated illustration of this lot. This work is in very good condition overall. The surface texture and tonal variations are consistent to the nature of the medium. Under close inspection, a few scattered fine surface scuffs, rubs and scratches to each element are visible, which is to be expected from the nature of the work's execution and display.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

“Up to a certain time I was cutting into things. Then I realized that the thing I was cutting was the cut. Rather than cut into the material, I now use the material as the cut in space.” Carl Andre

Executed in 1975, this work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist and will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonné of Carl Andre Sculpture being prepared by the Carl Andre and Melissa L. Kretschmer Foundation in collaboration with Artifex Press.
