The boulder is in good condition. There are some small chips and nicks to extremities, the largest is to the top of a pine and measuring 0.8 cm wide. The actual colour of the stone is slightly darker than the catalogue illustration.

本山子尺寸恢宏，甚為難得，玉匠隨形巧作，工藝超卓。刻畫山水庭院人物圖之玉雕，因其中涵義深受文士青睞。學者彭綺雲、劉瑞隆述，此類玉雕所刻畫自然景色，深受文士嚮往，故多置於書閣，見《閣有天珍：中國文房玉雕》，香港，2008年，頁13-14。 比較一例，尺寸相若，刻相近紋飾，載於Stanley Nott，《Voices from the Flowery Kingdom》，紐約，1947年，圖版LXIX。另一例尺寸較小，斷代十八世紀，高浮雕山水人物圖，出自Thannhauser收藏，現藏於柏林DDR Museum曾展於《Schätze Chinas in Museen der DDR.
