Condition
The illustration of the catalogue is accurate but the mirrors are very impressive in reality. As stated in the catalogue, the glass panels are later. There are minor surface scratches to the glass panels. As stated in the catalogue, both mirrors are regilt. There are the inevitable dents, chips, marks and scratches due to age and use. There are some cracks and chips to the branches with restorations. The gilding of the drip pans and the nozzles is slightly rubbed and tarnished. The nozzles are drilled for electricity. The drip pans are slightly twisted with losses to the borders. Very elegant design and impressive scale. Highly decorative.

This impressive pair of mirrors fitted as wall-lights has to be compared to a similar one sold at Christie's London, 19 May 1983, lot 80. This giltwood mural type of wall-light was also used in England in mid-18th century.
