The board is sound. Inspection under UV light reveals a thick varnish which prevents the light from fully penetrating, and small scattered spots of retouching, notably to the right ankle of the proper right leg of the man. There are further scattered spots and lines of retouching to the centre of the composition which directly correspond to pigment shrinkage. There are small losses and nicks to each corner and a larger loss to the lower right corner. There is evidence of frame abrasion to all four edges, which is not visible when framed. This work is in overall fairly good condition.
