This seat is identical to the faldistoire sold in Fontainebleau, Osenat auction, 2 July 2017, lot 130, bearing an ink handwritten label: "This stool was made for Napoléon's coronation at Notre-Dame. It [...] David's painting Le Sacre in the Louvre museum". The château de Versailles keeps the Pope Pius VII's faldistoire [papal throne], designed by David for the coronation, from a slightly different model.
