FIRST ITALIAN EDITION OF VITRUVIUS. Cesariano, the editor and translator, also produced many of the woodcuts, though due to a dispute with his collaborators (Massimo Bono Mauro and Benedetto Giovio), his commentary on the last few books was not included and they had to supply the text; some of this information is provided in the letter at the end by the sponsors of the printing, Agostino Gallo and Aloisio Pirovano. The contract regarding the financing of the printing was dated 11 April 1521. "The most beautiful of all the early editions" (PMM, p.16).
