拍品資料及來源

Lear was undoubtedly captivated by Cairo, making numerous trips there and exclaiming it to be astonishing, exotic and colourful. The present sheet illustrates the Tombs of the Mamluks in the City of the Dead, an Islamic necropolis and cemetery situated at the foot of the Mokattam Hills in south-eastern Cairo. Beyond is the Saladin Citadel, a medieval Islamic fortification built between 1176 and 1183, and in the foreground Lear depicts numerous figures and camels.
