The canvas is lined, the paint surface is rather dirty and the varnish is slightly discoloured. In raking light it is possible to see a handful of small retouchings to old losses, none more than 1 cm. squared, in the background around the sitter's head. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the old varnish which fluoresces opaquely, and appears only to a reveal a small retouching in the sitter's hair and in one of the folds of her diaphanous shawl, but no other intervention. In overall good condition.
