This warm-toned gelatin silver print, flush-mounted to an undeveloped sheet of photo paper, with a surface sheen, is in generally good to very good condition. Soiling, hairline scratches, a few impressions and scattered deposits of original retouching are visible overall. Three long scratches (each measuring no longer than 3-inches) that do not appear to break the emulsion are visible. On the reverse there are ink deposits and white paint. Glue remnants and abrasions sugget this was previously mounted. The 'Alfred Stieglitz: Photograph' MoMA exhibition stamp is cancelled and partly erased. 'ABIQUIU New Mexico U.S.A.' is written in an unidentified hand in ink. When examined under ultraviolet light, the mount appears to fluoresce faintly.

The Alfred Stieglitz Exhibition: His Photographs and Collection opened at The Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1947.  The exhibition stamp and the photographer’s credit stamp on the reverse of the photograph offered here suggest that it was made at the time of the retrospective, possibly for publicity.
