Bezel-set with a moonstone carved as a scarab, framed with rose-cut diamonds, and a second row of oval-shaped rubies and single-cut diamonds, on a gold curb link chain, gross weight approximately 52 dwts, length 7½ inches, with French import mark, circa 1880.

In good overall condition, the curb link chain and central mounting with surface scratches and minor discoloration commensurate with age and wear. Clasp with Parisian (French) assay mark for 14 karat gold. The moonstone scarab, measuring approximately 14.7 x 11.9 mm (depth not possible to measure due to closed back mounting), is of silvery white bodycolor with good chatoyancy. The diamonds, estimated to weigh approximately 0.75 carat, are bright and lively. The four rubies are medium deep slightly purplish red, and moderately included. Clasp closes securely and is fitted with a safety chain.
