Condition

Overall in very good, age appropriate condition condition. The wood surfaces with scattered scuffs, scratches, nicks, dents, abrasions, and areas of rubbing and discoloration, all consistent with age and use. There are natural knots, irregularities, and separations in the wood grain, typical for Inland fir, which have been reinforced with wood infill in areas by Molesworth at the time of production; a few of these areas throughout with losses to the infill, most significantly to the front proper right foot, the narrow loss measuring approximately 2 ½ in. long. The rear proper left foot and the front proper right foot each with a narrow loss to the infill measuring approximately ¾ x ¾ in. and 1 ¼ x ½ in., respectively. The leather was possibly reupholstered circa 1970; its surfaces with some scattered minor scuffs, scratches, nicks, abrasions, slight instances of paint residue, and areas of rubbing and discoloration (particularly to the white leather), all consistent with age and gentle use. One side of the seat cushion with the remnants of what appears to be a water stain, measuring approximately 8 ½ x 9 in.; the other side with a more prominent scuff measuring approximately 3 ¾ x ¾ in. The exterior proper right side of the chair with a separation in the leather measuring approximately 2 in. The rear of the chair with a more prominent abrasion to the leather surface measuring approximately ½ x ¼ in. The brass tacks with some minor surface scratches and areas of rubbing, not visually distracting and consistent with age and gentle use. Originating from the personal collection of the designer, the chair is a rare and unusual form for Molesworth, intended for use in a bedroom or vanity space.
