ASSOCIATION COPY. This copy belonged to Andrew Bloxham (1801-1878), the naturalist aboard HMS Blonde, and the nephew of Sir Thomas Lawrence R.A. Bloxham’s brother Richard was the ship’s chaplain. George Anson Byron was a cousin of the celebrated poet. His grandfather John Byron circumnavigated the world with George Anson in 1740-44 (see also lot 4).
The expedition "was undertaken to convey back to the Hawaiian Islands the remains of King Kamehameha II and his wife Queen Kamamalu, who had died from measles during their state visit to England" (Hill). The account provides interesting information on Hawaii and its natural history and inhabitants.
