RARE. Mahmud al-Alusi (1802-54) was an Iraqi Islamic scholar and Mufti of Baghdad. He is best known for writing an exegesis of the Qur'an, and for the present works, which describe his famous journey to and from Constantinople and residence in the city to lodge a complaint against Najib Pasha who had stripped al-Alusi of his post as Mufti of Baghdad. Al-Alusi describes his travels overland and by steamboat and gives a detailed account of his time in Constantinople and his dealings with the Ottoman authorities. cf. Fattah, Hala.
