Another English edition was published simultaneously in Dublin. This book was first published in Madrid in 1748. The authors were very scientific-minded captains of the Spanish navy. They were ordered by the king of Spain to escort the French expedition dispatched by the Academy of Science in 1735. The group travelled extensively and met many hardships. The work is described by Sabin as: "the most entertaining and satisfactory of its kind; the authors are the acknowledged source of much that has been published in other forms".
