Condition

Executed on cream wove paper, laid down on thin paper and attached to the overmount with tape and supports at each corner of the verso. The sheet is slightly time stained and the paper surface is slightly undulating. There are areas of restored paper skinning towards the right part of the centre of the composition. There are a horizontal flattened fold and a vertical flattened fold running across the centre of the composition, not visually distracting. This work is in overall fairly good condition.

The present work was executed during a lunch at Foyles bookshop at which the artist was present. According to the work's first owner, she asked Chagall to distract her by drawing a sketch for her on the back of a guest list.

The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by the Comité Chagall.
