This and the following lot are two paintings closely related to a group attributed to Jaipur. European prints of cities like Rome, Venice and Paris reached India and impressed local artists who copied some of the architectural features in their drawings. The prospective effects and style of the buildings recall the group of three miniatures from a series depicting imaginary incidents in Indian cities in the Chester Beatty Library (Linda York Leach, Mughal and Other Indian Paintings from the Chester Beatty Library, vol.II, Dublin, 1995, pp.752-5, nos.7, 86-7, 88).
