The exterior applied with foliate scroll work of Indo-Persian inspiration in black and white enamel and pierced in a geometric design, enhanced with rose and collet-set square diamonds, opening to reveal a plain interior, measuring approximately 57 x 43 x 10mm, signed Cartier, numbered, one diamond deficient.

Condition

Signed Cartier Paris, indistinctly numbered, perhaps 5133, stamped with French assay mark for 18 carat gold to interior. Enamel with some areas of chipping to corners, overall in good condition. One square diamond and its collet setting deficient. Closing securely. Gross weight approximately 51.1 grams.

Florence Blumenthal (1873-1930) was the wife of George Blumenthal (1858-1941), a prominent Wall Street banker and collector of art. He was made chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of art in 1934, and together with Florence, was an important patron of Cartier throughout the 1920s and 30s.
