Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. The impasto elements are intact. The uneven sheen to the surface appears inherent to the artist's working method and chosen medium. A light layer of dust has settled along the surface. Under close inspection, there is evidence of wear and handling to the edges. Under further close inspection, there is scattered stable unobtrusive craquelure across the canvas and a ⅜ inch pigment loss 2 ½ inches from the bottom edge along the central vertical axis. Under ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

"There is no abstraction or figuration: there is only expression and expressing oneself, it is about placing oneself in front of things. To abstract means to take away, to isolate, to separate whilst I try to do the contrary, to add, to approach, to link." Jean-Paul Riopelle
