Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux 2006 BordeauxBanded prior to inspectionThis was the lowest ever production of Pavillon Blanc due to April frost, with only 13hl/hectare made, so opportunities to drink it are few and far between. It had 8 months in oak, a third new, and lees stirring for half the quantity. An astounding 15.1% alcohol. A wondrous wine, sporting grapefruit, papaya and vanillin character, allied to great richness (that small yield). A mouth enveloping taste of petals and citrus fruits. A knock-out, in the nicest possible way. Already so accessible at 2 years old, but Paul Pontallier and I have promised ourselves (if we are spared) to 'check it out' in 20 years' time - a reason for living! It has all the ingredients. In 2009, a lovely lemon and petrol nose. Terrific glycerol on the palate. Very ripe and yet grapefruity. Total concentration of acidity and flavours.
