the oviform vase with everted neck and foot, silver mounts, decorated in coloured cloisonné enamels and worked in silver wire in ginbari technique on a metallic blue transparent ground, with three-clawed dragons amongst flames in relief fighting above crashing waves waves, signed Tomiko in katakana (for Tomiki Shobei of Nagoya)

19.5 cm., 7¾ in. high

Tomiki Shobei opened his studio in 1882 and won prizes at international exhibitions in Chicago 1893, St Louis 1904 and Liège 1905.
