This oil sketch is a preparatory work for The Olympic Games by Jean Pierre Saint-Ours in the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire, Geneva.1 The present work differs from 𒁃the finished painting, most notably in the figure group in the centre, which is replaced by two nude athletes in the final composition. The large scale of the finished painting, which measures 226 x 407 cm., would suggest that Saint-Ours almost certainly experimented with a number of preparatory drawings and sketches before establishing his final composition.

The present work will be🅷 iꦆncluded in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of works by Jean Pierre Saint-Ours.
