This exceptional ecuelle demonstrates the talent of Johann Friderich Baer, a rare silversmith whose extravag𒊎ant masterpiece, a standing cup and cover fi🌠gures on a portrait of the artist attributed to Johann Daniel Heimlich, both in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. In 1746, Johann Friedrich Baer became master in the Strasburg guild of silversmiths.

The arms are those of Gou💧rgue de Vayres and Lamoignon. This ecuelle was made in 1766, probably on the occasion of the tenth wedding anniversary of Armand-Guillaume de Gourgue, président of the Parliament of Paris, ❀and Elisabeth-Olive de Lamoignon.
