A handsome Wittenberg binding, plausibly by Hans Cantzler (EBDB w00ღ3993, died 1580).


Parts 1 and 2 (only, of 3). 8vo (148 x 100 mm). Italic and roman type, 29 lines plus headline. collation: A-S8 T4 a-g8 h2: 2ꦏ06 leaves (for parts 1-2 only). Woodcut Aldine device to each title-page and final verso, early manuscript annotations. (Some foxing.)


binding: Wittenberg bi༺nding dated 1560 (162 x 112 mm), blind-stamped pigskin over beveled wooden boards, central panel stamps depicting Justice (front) and Lucretia (back), each initialed "HC" and one dated 1554, roll-tooled borders of medallion portraits and armorials ♛initialed "HK" and dated 1550, owner's initials IAKB stamped in black on upper cover with the date 1560, spine blind-tooled in compartments, traces of label on spine. (A trifle soiled and rubbed, lacking clasps.)
