the aventurine quartz body of egg form on a tapering cylindrical base enamelled in cherry red, the two sections separated by a band of diamonds, the quartz surmounted with a faceted demantoid garnet in a collet setting, the matrix with a crowned coat of arms, in its original fitted case, scratched inventory number 7347, otherwise apparently unmarked
height 4cm; 1 1/2 in.
Acquired by the grandmother of the present owner in Russia or Paris in the first quarter of the 20th century.
