Two Roman Gold Necklaces

circa 2nd/3rd century A.D.


each composed of a loop-in-loop chain, one with small emerald pendant embraced by a crescentic openwork clasp with ꦯradiating spirals, the other with a gadrooned pomegranate-form pendant and domed clasp.

Lengths 40.4 cm. and 37.3 cm.

Thomas P. Miller, executive assistant at The Cloisters, New Yor♉k, acquired in Palermo in 1965
