Almost three years in the making, the ambitious new art fair (18–20 January) finished its inaugural run last week. Organised by Hong Kong-based Magnus Renfrew, whose previous fair, Art Hong Kong, sold to Art Basel ꦑin 2011, Taipei Dangdai drew international mega-galleries like Gagosian and David Zwirner in addition to a robust Asian presence. Renfrew hoped to tap into Taiwan's strong collector base and give visitors the opportunity to discover local artists from the region. "Art is about ideas which are common to all of us," he said. "Taipei Dangdai aspires to be a meeting place for the exchange of these ideas."
